A comprehensive history of the 52 "sloopers" who arrived in New York in 1825 thus becoming the first Norwegians of the modern era to immigrate to America. The book contains lengthy family histories with genealogies dating back to the 14th. century, several thousand names and addresses of "slooper" descendants, plus a wealth of other important historical information relating to those who ìpaved the wayî for all later day Norwegian immigrants. (668 pages) Published in cooperation with the Norwegian Slooper Society of America. This book is focused on the 52 Norwegians who immigrated to America in 1825 and settled in upstate New York and then the Fox River Valley in Illinois. It contains several thousand names w/addresses of descendants of those first Norwegians. Since the book was published in 1961, all individuals listed are from the the 40's and 50's. JK3

Sometimes it takes some searching to find individuals. I have limited skill in reading Norwegian, but can understand enough to know who wed who, who moved where, birth and death dates, etc. I will do my best to find the names of thoses for whom you are searching. This is apparently the fourth book in a series and contains biographies of emigrants. It is written in Norwegian which I can read fairly well. It has a name index. It has several chapters about who went, why they went, where they settled, transcriptions of letters and poems, descriptions of pioneer life. CB1

Volume 1 is in two books. - Volume 1A - "Gardor og slekter Øystre Slidre - Hegge og Lidar" [farms and families Øystre Slidre, Hegge and Lidar parishes] - Volume 1B - "Gardor og slekter Øystre Slidre - Volbu og Rogne" [farms and families Øystre Slidre, Volbu and Rogne parishes]. I read Norwegian very poorly, but can look up as much as I can in the indices. Some families are represented in the other volumes if they are teachers, musicians, government leaders and such. KL1
I have the books containing church records for Øyer (with Tretten) from 1671-1893, containing birth, marriage and burial records, from 1824 also confirmation and emigration. I also have the censuses from 1865, 1875 and 1900 (for Øyer and Tretten). NKE

This includes some historical facts, church life history, school history, government history and a large section on the "gards" or farms. The owners of each farm and sub-farm is listed from aproximately 1500s to early 1900s. This gard history provides a unique view and collection of parents and children and is usully useful to find people on that farm. Written in Norwegian. KL1
"Bygdebok for Gyland." Lars Fr. Nuland, et al \ Utgitt av Flekkefjord Historielag \ 2008. This book is updated from the original book by Lars Fr. Nuland by the Flekkefjord Historielag to list many of the 20th century updates to the culture and farm owners of the Gyland parish and associated farms. The book is now two volumes; "Kultur og Folkliv" and "Gards - og Ættesoga". The books are written in Norwegian, but now in contemporary dialect.
