This book is a marvelous resource on the Hamblen family and often on the families married into the Hamblens who lived in Brown County, Indiana, as well as Jefferson County, Illinois, Madison County, Missouri, and lots of other locales around the country. There is information about the Hamblen name's origins and early immigrants to America. The genealogy begins with George Hamblen who lived in Maryland and whose birth was guessed at around 1725 to 1730 and his 8 children. It continues to trace their descendants to the present day, around 1940. A. P. Hamblen wrote extensive letters to relatives, includes military and land records, and gives much detail. It has helped me immensely in my family research on this family line. L31

Autobiography of daughter of a Northern father and Southern mother, accompanied by biographical sketches of some notable ancestors and geealogical charts, with particular emphasis on Hamlin family of MA and ME and Carter and Brooke families influential in VA. Some genealogical or historical assertions may be debatable. Nonagenarian author and her close family, like some of her forbears, have had interesting political connections which help to spice up a sunny work of research and reminiscence. Author is both a fourth cousin once removed and a half second cousin once removed of contributor. MPR

This book is not a complete genealogy of the HINSHAW and BARNARD families; but rather a direct line to the descendents of the union of ALONZO HINSHAW and ANNA MARY BARNARD in 1877. ..... The BARNARD FAMILY and their allied lines are an interesting and very different story because of their settling on Nantucket Island, where they not only farmed, but became whale fisherman, eventually sailing the seas worldwide in search of whales. Because of the limited number of families on the Island, there was much inter-marriage, making research more difficult. The same first names appeared with all surnames in time. The name of 'Tristram' was originally a 'Coffin' name, but later appeared in other families. CCW
