Descendants (in part) of George-1 Gates (abt. 1635-1724) and wife Sarah-3 Olmsted, among the original proprietors of Haddam and then E. Haddam, CT, founded 1650s. Dr. Patterson had direct access to the original town records 50 years before Gen. Lucius Barbour began his exhaustive Connecticut VRs. My copy is of a copy of a typescript, but is mostly clear. I have up through the 4th generation of GATESes, with part of the 5th and subsequent, up to the then living 7th generation (1865). I have copied the index of both GATES names and of others who married into the family except for the page MORRI-PHEK. DH3
