Neshoba Co.

"OUR LINKS TO THE PAST 1833-1996 CEMETERY RECORDS OF NESHOBA COUNTY, MS." Edited by Theresa T. Ridout, Neshoba County Public Library, Express Printing 1998. My book contains names of people buried in Cemeteries of Neshoba County, Mississippi for 1833-1996, compiled by the Neshoba County Historical Society working with Theresa Ridout of Neshoba County Library, 230 Beacon Street, Philadelphia, MS 39350, COPYRIGHTED by the library 1998. The information is from the headstones in the cemeteries. Some headstones were unreadable and supplementary information has been found through other sources when possible, but NOT ALL cemeteries have ALL information for persons buried there--some information was simply not readable. The cemeteries listed are public cemeteries and not privately owned by any one family. Some of the cemeteries are associated with different Church denominations and usually give the name of the church. Some cemeteries are listed as only having one race buried there. J26

"Educable Children of Perry County 1850-1900 (includes the Perry County portion of the Federal Mortality Schedules for 1850, 1860, 1870 and 1880)." Author: Richard Roman. Publisher/Date: self published 2004. This book acts as a substitute for the records lost when the Perry County courthouse burned in 1877 and the loss of the 1890 federal census. Only some years of the educable children census contain useful information (for example 1850 only states the list was received, 1871, 1872 and 1881 do not contain names, only totals). Still, the book is very helpful. The book is not indexed. M15

In 1845 the head of household is recorded as well as the total number of males and total number of females. In 1853 the head of household is recorded as well as a total number of persons in the family (male and female are not enumerated seperately). The Perry County Courthouse burned in 1877 so this book is a great source of information. The tax rolls survived because they were not housed in the courthouse. M15

"Who Lived Where, Perry County, Mississippi." AUTHOR: Jean Stricklans and Patricia N. Edwards. PUBLISHER/DATE: self published 1992. This is a transcription of the land tract book for Perry Co. This book contains a lot of substitute information from many sources including private collections of records (original marriage licenses that have been passed down in families, Bible records etc). However, since these is a compilation of mostly secondary sources do not take what is written in this book as gospel. Use it as a starting point in your research. M15
